2009 - FLYING LEGENDS AIR SHOW DUXFORD

Tuesday 29 September 2009: FLYING LEGENDS AIR SHOW DUXFORD IWM 11.JULY 2009 We set off from home very early Saturday morning and arrived at Duxford around 8.30am. It was rather cloudy and cool but there was an announcement that skies should clear and the sun appear around midday. A walk round the flightline was done, with a large number of aircraft on display. Sure enough about 12noon blue patches of skies appeared and out came the sun! The flying programme looked excellent and we were not disappointed. One highlight was The Horsemen, 3 very experienced pilots from the USA who give breathtaking displays with 3 Mustangs. They were unable to use their own machines, but looked very comfortable in their borrowed UK versions. There was a good representation of Mustangs, including a new one to me, Cavalier F-51D 44-10753a [NL405HC]. Also there was a good number of Spitfires including PS890 with contra-props reverted back to normal. It was good to see the Sea Fire SX336 making a rare appearance. Hurricanes too included the Sea Hurricane Z7105 another rare flyer. Yak Fighters made a good showing including the Aerostars Team. 2 Skyraiders flying gave a good display, and the appearance of 2 Hawker Sea Furys at the show, something we rarely see these days. WW1 was represented with some Fokker Dr1 replicas giving a lively performance. Mikael Carlson was present with his Bleriot which he expertly flew as usual. 2009 - RIAT - ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATOO

Wednesday 9 September 2009: RIAT ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATOO RAF FAIRFORD 17th TO 20th JULY 2009 The 2009 Tatoo was a celebration of the success of NATO over the past 60 years. NATO is the NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANISATION. RIAT also remembered SEA SEARCH 09, dedicated maritime patrol aircraft keeping the seas safe and available to carry out rescue operations. Another milestone to commemorate in 2009 was 100 years of Navy aviation, FLY NAVY 100. In celebration of this there was a large naval presence and a special flypast of naval aircraft, including helicopters, jets and propellers. It just so happened that 2009 was also the 40 years anniversary of Sea King service and several marks of the helicopter were present, including XV648, now an HUS, repainted in its original dark blue livery. Everyone attending the show was thrilled to see XH558 Vulcan give a wonderful display, thanks to the tireless efforts of 'Vulcan to the Sky'. Making it's debut at the 2009 RIAT was the Dassault Rafale B of the French Air Force. Flying display teams formed an important part of the programme, with the Red Arrows, Swiss Air Force PC-7s, Team Guinot (in it's final year), Breitling Jet Team, The Black Cats, Royal Jordanian Falcons, The Blue Eagles and Italy's Frecce Tricolori. Wednesday 29 July 2009: WADDINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW SATURDAY 04.JULY 2009 This year's show enjoyed good warm sunny weather which brought out the crowds. Themes for the event were.... 90 years of the RAF Benevolent Fund NATO at 60 FLY NAVY 100 It was great to see 2 new display teams this year.... Team Orlik from Poland and Team Viper flying Strikemaster aircraft. Another highlight was to have been the Vulcan giving a flying display. However according to the CAA, paperwork was not in order, so they would not allow it to take to the skies. Fortunately for the crowds eagerly waiting to see the historic aircraft, it was repositioned from the airfield to join the static display. Click on photo to see a bigger image. Saturday 28 February 2009: DUXFORD FLYING LEGENDS AIR SHOW 13.JULY 2008 2008 was the 90th anniversary of flying at this historic airfield. The Flying Legends airshow is held at Duxford in Cambridgeshire in England at the beginning of July every year. The airshow features only warbird and vintage aircraft, such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and P-51 Mustang. It is run by The Fighter Collection, which is based at Duxford. 2008 - RIAT- ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO

Wednesday 19 November 2008: RIAT - ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO FAIRFORD 12 - 13 TH JULY 2008 The 2008 RIAT event was in fact a non-event, sabotaged by the British weather. Shows on Saturday and Sunday has to be cancelled due to the water-logged ground. The Friday arrivals day did go ahead in somewhat trying conditions and the Monday departures day was held in better weather. Thanks must be given to the RIAT ground staff who worked so hard to make the Monday possible. On the Friday the Queen attended a special Flypast to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force. RIAT 2008 was also the first time the US F-22 Raptor was displayed in Europe. Saturday 1 November 2008: RAF WADDINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW 05.JULY 2008 The star of this year's show was without doubt the VULCAN, returned to flight after years of restoration. After last years bad weather on the show weekend, resulting in the Sunday event being cancelled, we were hoping for sun in 2008. And yes we did have some sun, but.............. after a fair start in the morning, we had almost completed the static when the heavens opened, the wind gusted to gale force and we were soaked. Our feet were still wet when we got home late in the evening! But we were pleased that after a bad start to the flying display, the sun did put in an appearance. 2008 - BIGGIN HILL AIR FAIR

Thursday 31 July 2008: BIGGIN HILL AIR FAIR 2008 7th JUNE 2008 is the year when the RAF celebrates 90 years and so special colours and logos were found on some RAF aircraft. An interesting flying display was given by SE-AMZ Bleriot piloted by a very skillful Mikael Carlson. The Blades, Breitling Fighters and Team Guinot gave great displays in somewhat gloomy conditions in the afternoon. Other notable aircraft at the Air Fair were.... G-APSA DC-6 British Eagle XL577 Hunter WM167 Meteor Sarang Helicopter Display team of the Indian Air Force are giving displays in Europe during the 2008 season. Click on photo to see a bigger image. Tuesday 29 July 2008: BERLIN AIRSHOW 31.MAY 2008 Blue skies and hot sun were the order of the day for the week of this year's air show. The first appearance in Europe of Sarang the helicopter display team from the Indian Air Force was here in Berlin. Star of the show seemed to be the MiG-29 of the Polish Air Force. 2008 is the final year of the DC-3/C-47 being allowed to carry passengers due to new rules by the EU. 2007 - RIAT ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO

Friday 18 April 2008: RIAT ROAYL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO RAF FAIRFORD 13 - 16 July 2007 A good display of static and flying aircraft but the weather could have been better. Highlight this year was the visit of Indian IL-78 and SU-30 aircraft. Also we enjoyed a fine display from the Thunderbirds of the USA. It was good to see displays from Frecce Tricolori of Italy and Patrulla Aguila of Spain. Appearing at the event were two Phantoms from Germany, two A-7s from Greece, a Jaguar of the RAF and two An-26s from Czech Republic and Hungary. Also a BAC-111 of Oman. Wednesday 2 January 2008: SHOREHAM AIRSHOW 15.SEPTEMBER 2007 The 2007 show was one of the very best for weather with warm sun all day. However the day was marred by the crash of G-HURR BD707 Hurricane XIIa in which the pilot Brian Brown was killed during a mock dog fight. Saturday 13 October 2007: FLYING LEGENDS DUXFORD 07.JULY 2007 Once again the weather was kind for this airshow, although not sun all the time. The Heritage Flight was an F-15E flying with a P-39Q Aircobra 'Brooklyn Bum 2' and 2 Mustangs 'Twilight Tear' and 'Miss Velma'. It was also really good to see the Seafire G-KASX SX3366 flying. Tuesday 25 September 2007: RAF COSFORD 30.JUNE 2007 A visit to RAF Cosford was made possible in June, when after a visit to Newark Air Museum on Friday, the Saturday morning dawned cloudy and damp, with heavy rain forecast. So deciding Waddington Airshow would not be very enjoyable in such conditions, a drive across the Midlands to RAF Cosford was on the agenda. 2007 - DUXFORD - BATTLE OF BRITAIN MEMORIAL FLIGHT 50th ANNIVERSARY

Thursday 10 May 2007: BATTLE OF BRITAIN MEMORIAL FLIGHT WELCOME DAY IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM DUXFORD 05.MAY 2007 This was the public launch of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's 50th anniversary year. The BBMF is the RAF's tribute to the aviators of the Second World War. This event was the first opportunity to see the new colours of the Lancaster PA474 Spitfire P7350 and Spitfire AB910. All the aircraft of the BBMF were on show, including the elusive Chipmunks. The oldest airworthy spitfire flew in formation with an RAF Eurofighter Typhoon. 2006 - FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW

Saturday 6 January 2007: FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW Saturday 22.July 2006 A visit to this airshow held every 2 years did produce a few new types and schemes. The week had been very hot and sunny and Saturday was no exception, as we started out by car for the day. Rain had been forecast though, so we started touring round the static aircraft display shortly after arrival. This was a good move as all was seen and photographed in sunny conditions, finishing just after the flying display began. However it wasn't long before there was a definite blackness in the sky and as thunder and lightening ensued we put on our raincoats, having noted that the weather was coming our way. There was a lot of rain but it did not last too long. Most of the pilots coped with conditions very well once the storm had passed overhead and I believe only 2 or 3 flights were cancelled, with these aircraft taxiing along the runway to be seen by the spectators. Then out came the sun again to give a good finish to the show. Two major attractions to the show were the A380 Airbus and the Osprey. Click on photo to see a bigger image. 2006 - DUXFORD - FLYING LEGENDS

Wednesday 25 October 2006: DUXFORD FLYING LEGENDS AIR SHOW 08.JULY 2006 We were treated once again to a magnificent display of aircraft in glorious hot sunny weather. One of the main aircraft on show was the F6F Hellcat, aquired by the Fighter Collection in 1988. The Spitfire has had it's 70th anniversary this year and always features highly in Flying Legends Air Shows. History was made when 3 Bristol F2B Fighters took to the air for the first time since they were retired from the RAF in the 1930s. Another special was the Breighton's Buchon with the Hispano HA-1112-M1L C.4K-102 making an appearance. Also a good number of Mustangs,Hurricanes, Corsairs and Grumman Cats filled the skies and there was a French B-17 to accompany 'Sally B'. 2006 - WADDINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW

Tuesday 26 September 2006: WADDINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW 01.JULY 2006 This show was particularly significant because it marked the 'End of the Canberra' after 55 years of service with the Royal Air Force. But also in came something new.... the first public appearance of the Sentinel, the RAF's latest surveillance aircraft, entering service at Waddington with No.5 (AC) Squadron. The display also marked the 70th anniversary of the Spitfire and the cutting edge technology of the Typhoon. This show raises significant amounts of money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Royal Air Forces Association. Also as it did not clash with other major shows this year there was more to see, although not as much on static display as we have seen in the past. Conditions were ideal for the flying displays. Monday 16 January 2006: SHOREHAM AIRSHOW 03.SEPTEMBER 2005 The theme of this airshow was CELEBRATING THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF VE AND VJ DAY I thought the show was a little disappointing this time, since there were fewer aircraft on static display than usual, due it seems to there being several airshows on during the same weekend, resulting in 'shared' aircraft. Hopefully this will not happen in 2006... in fact it seems the shows are spaced out over the season, so we should see better displays of static and flying aircraft. Friday 9 December 2005: RIAT 2005 THE ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATOO FAIRFORD UK 16 & 17 JULY 2005 This was my first visit to RIAT ever and it was as good as I had dreamed of it being. So much to see from round the world, on display as static exhibits and flying in a breath-taking show of air power. Arrivals day on Friday was great and departures day on Monday gave a chance to see even the statics take to the air. The weather was hot and sunny throughout the weekend until lunchtime on Monday, when there was a little drizzly rain. But who cares about that! All in all, a brilliant and enjoyable weekend. Thursday 15 September 2005: GATWICK AVIATION MUSEUM 29aug2005 This museum is found near Charlwood close to Gatwick Airport. He has a good collection of post war British aircraft, some of which have been restored to a condition where the engines will run and the flying control surfaces move. Gatwick Aviation Museum is open to the public on selected days of the year usually at weekends and bank holidays. Peter will also arrange for private visits when arranged with him beforehand.
